Indonesia’s QRIS digital payment system will start operating in South Korea in April 2026, allowing Indonesians to pay cashlessly using their local payment apps while visiting the country.

Bank Indonesia said the system is ready after successful testing and coordination with the Bank of Korea, enabling travelers to use apps like GoPay, OVO, Dana, and ShopeePay by simply scanning QR codes at participating merchants.

The cross-border payment link is expected to make travel more convenient, cut currency exchange costs, and strengthen economic and tourism ties between Indonesia and South Korea.

With hundreds of thousands of Indonesians visiting South Korea each year, QRIS will help simplify payments at shops, restaurants, transport services, and tourist spots in cities such as Seoul, Busan, and Jeju.

This rollout is part of Indonesia’s wider plan to expand QRIS internationally, following similar or planned integrations with countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan.
