China proved instrumental to the film's phenomenal success, contributing approximately $447 million and setting multiple records including the country's highest animated opening ever for a non-local title at $272 million, with the sequel now ranking as the second-highest-grossing Hollywood film of all time in the Chinese market behind only Marvel's Avengers: Endgame.

The billion-dollar achievement marks Walt Disney Animation Studios' first-ever back-to-back billion-dollar releases following last year's Moana 2, bringing the studio's total count to five billion-dollar titles since 2013 including Frozen, Frozen 2, Moana 2, Zootopia, and now Zootopia 2, while theatrical success has simultaneously driven over 725 million viewing hours of the original Zootopia and spinoff series Zootopia+ on Disney+ streaming platform.
