Can you actually make an Android phone for gamers? Aren’t they all spec-heavy beasts of incredible processing burden? These are the questions Razer will have to answer as it introduces its first ever smartphone, appropriately titled the Razer Phone.
In their official announcement, Razer described the Razer Phone as “the ultimate in mobile entertainment”. Like most Razer products, the phone prioritizes high specifications and performance, with a focus on the facilities of greatest importance for gaming and media.
Razer prides itself on selling products made “for gamers, by gamers,” and it believes the above combination of desirable internal components will offset the blandness of the Razer Phone’s looks, the bigness of its speaker-housing bezels, and the absence of its headphone jack.
Inside the Razer Phone box you’ll find a THX-certified audio dongle that lets you hook up headphones and promises 24-bit “audiophile-quality” sound, but that’s a weird compromise on a device that’s supposed to be about no-compromise gaming performance. Among the particularly stand-out features is the Razer Phone’s display, boasting the world’s first 120hz Ultramotion display for the best possible visual experience.
Mobile gaming is a massive industry, not only for casual players but increasingly making up a portion of esports, with the likes of MOBA’s such as Vainglory and Arena of Valor designed specifically for mobile as well as games such as Hearthstone being available on mobile platforms.
The Razer Phone is available for pre-order now and ships on November 17th.
