Last November, a video of a young Cambodian boy speaking 15 languages impressed people around the world, SAYS.com reported.
Malaysian travel blogger Venus Gwc posted the video of Thaksin nonchalantly switching between languages while selling souvenirs at Ta Prohm Temple in Angkor Wat on Facebook.
It was revealed that the boy could speak Cantonese, Mandarin, English, Malay, Thai, Japanese, Korean, French, Spanish, German, and Filipino, among others.
The Facebook post has been shared over 34,000 times at the time of writing.
Thanks to the power of social media, Thaksin's linguistic skills will not go to waste.
He has received sponsorship from a Cambodian businessman, Khit Chhern, to pursue his studies in China.
On 12 May, Chhern announced in a Facebook post that he is paying for the young Cambodian's education at Hailiang Foreign Language School in Zhejiang.
In the viral video, Thaksin said that he enjoys speaking Chinese languages the most.
The businessman expressed his hope for the boy to have a "bright future".
Thaksin arrived in China on 13 May to a warm welcome from students and staff of his new school.
He can be seen smiling and bowing to his new school friends several times in the video.
According to Sinchew, the boy aspires to be a tour guide so that he can help foreigners understand Cambodia's culture and history. Watch the video of Thaksin's warm welcome here:
