After Gojek-Tokopedia Merger: The Highest-Valued Startups in the World

Indonesia tech unicorns Gojek and Tokopedia announced the completion of a merger on Monday with the formation of a new entity called GoTo Group, which is now Indonesia’s highest-valued start-up at an estimated US$17 billion. 

The merger would create an Indonesia presence among the top 20 unicorns in the world, which consisted of mainly Chinese and U.S. companies as well as one Swedish (Klarna), one Brazilian (Nubank), one Indian (One97 Communications), one British ( and one Australian (Canva) endeavor.

According to the CB Insights unicorn list, Chinese AI company Bytedance is the highest-valued startup – currently private, up-and-coming company – in the world. The parent company of TikTok is valued at $140 billion. Bytedance runs content platform Toutiao in China, which uses machine learning to tailor a newsfeed for each individual viewer out of traditional and new media sources.

According to CB Insights, there were more than 650 unicorn startups (companies valued at $1 billion or more) valued at a combined $2.2 trillion in the world as of April 2021.

In 2009, he continued his career as a protocol and HR officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya, and two years later I joined the Political and Economic Section until now, where i have to deal with extensive range of people and government officials, as well as private and government institution troughout eastern Indonesia. I am the founder and Editor-in-Chief in Good News From Indonesia (GNFI), a growing and influential social media movement, and was selected as one of The Most Influential Netizen 2011 by The Marketeers magazine. I also wrote a book on "Fundamentals of Disaster Management in 2007"?, "Good News From Indonesia : Beragam Prestasi Anak Bangsa di dunia"? which was luanched in August 2013, and "Indonesia Bersyukur"? which is launched in Sept 2013.
