Malaysia will host the 4th World Islamic Tourism Conference (WITC) on 12-13 September 2024 in Kuala Lumpur. Initiated by the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC), the event will bring together 500 industry leaders to network and discuss the development of Shariah-compliant tourism under the theme 'Forging Connections'.
The 4th WITC comes on the heels of Malaysia being named the top Muslim-friendly destination for the ninth consecutive year in the Global Muslim Travel Index Report by Mastercard and CrescentRating. The event invites Malaysians, tourism industry decision makers, stakeholders and practitioners from around the world to explore the vast Islamic tourism sector and seize opportunities in the US$225 billion Muslim tourism market.
Since its inception in 2017, WITC has become a benchmark in Islamic tourism. With the rapid growth of the global Muslim community, the conference is expected to serve as a platform for industry players to share knowledge and the latest innovations to meet the needs of the expanding market.
The theme "Forging Connections" emphasises the importance of bridging destinations, fostering understanding, encouraging economic cooperation and promoting cultural exchange, innovation and sustainability. This year's WITC will explore these themes through four tracks:
- Understanding Muslim Travellers: Explaining the backgrounds, motivations and faith-based needs of Muslim travellers and creating inclusive digital spaces.
- Muslim Friendly Travel and Community: Discussing standards and certification, tackling overtourism and promoting sustainable practices and halal food experiences.
- Growth and Opportunity: Highlighting Malaysia's mission as an Umrah hub, promoting Islamic heritage and sharing inspiring stories of Muslim-friendly tourism entrepreneurs.
- Inclusivity: Addressing marketing campaigns for Muslim consumers in non-Muslim countries, the impact of online Islamic finance platforms and inclusive financial solutions for Muslim travellers.
Mark your calendars. Be part of the event and don't miss out on the opportunity to witness, learn and network!
