Indonesia’s Creative Economy Sector: A Global Model
The creative economy sector in Indonesia has emerged as a model and exemplary case for many countries. This assertion was made by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Sandiaga Uno, during the International Creative Industry Conference and Festival 2024 (IC Fest 2024) held in Yogyakarta on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
Sandiaga Uno noted that Indonesia has successfully created 25 million jobs stemming from the creative industry. Furthermore, he highlighted that the Indonesian creative industry has generated an added value of IDR 1,400 trillion and exports amounting to approximately USD 27 billion.
In light of these achievements, Sandiaga Uno expressed strong optimism that such progress can be sustained and enhanced. This optimism aligns with Indonesia’s aspirations for 2045, aiming to achieve a vision of “Golden Indonesia.”
The creative economy is anticipated to play a significant role in this vision, with a target contribution of 11% to the national economy by 2045.

Resilience Amid Challenges
During IC Fest 2024, Sandiaga Uno reiterated the substantial growth of the creative economy sector in recent years. Despite the severe challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the creative economy has continued to advance steadily.
The inaugural IC Fest 2024, held for the first time in Indonesia, is expected to further enhance cooperation among various international sectors, fostering collaboration to expand the reach of the creative industry. Additionally, Sandiaga Uno emphasized that IC Fest 2024 aims to create extensive job opportunities.

Future Prospects of the Creative Economy
Looking ahead to 2030, it is anticipated that the creative economy sector will play a significantly larger role, potentially impacting global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by up to 40%.
Sandiaga Uno added that the creative industry is not solely focused on business development but also prioritizes community engagement and the protection of intellectual property rights held by those communities.
In conclusion, these efforts are expected to have a long-lasting impact, allowing the creative economy sector to continue its growth and make substantial contributions to the national economy.
