Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Officially Inaugurated: A New Era of Indonesian Leadership Begins 2024-2029

Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka were officially inaugurated as President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Indonesian Parliament Complex. 

As the eighth President and fourteenth Vice President, they took office after being sworn in during a plenary session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), marking the beginning of their term for the 2024-2029 period.

The inauguration was based on the General Elections Commission (KPU) Decision Number 504 of 2024, which declared them the elected President and Vice President in the 2024 General Election. 

The plenary session commenced at 10:00 AM WIB, beginning with the national anthem "Indonesia Raya," followed by a moment of silence to honor Indonesia’s national heroes.

MPR Chair Ahmad Muzani officially opened the session, after which Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka took oaths of office as the country's leaders. Prabowo’s oath emphasized his commitment to leading the nation following the Constitution and to fulfilling his duties with fairness and integrity.

Prabowo recited his oath with confidence:  

"By Allah, I swear that I will faithfully carry out the duties of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to the best of my ability, in the fairest way possible, adhering to the Constitution and all laws, and dedicating myself to the nation and people."

Similarly, Gibran Rakabuming Raka took his oath as Vice President, pledging to support President Prabowo in serving the nation.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran signed the official inauguration document, witnessed by the MPR leadership. The signed document was then handed over to the President and Vice President, signifying the start of their leadership for the 2024-2029 term.

First Presidential Address

Before closing the plenary session, President Prabowo delivered his first state address in front of the assembly members. His speech, which lasted approximately 58 minutes, covered five key areas that he and Vice President Gibran aimed to address during their administration.

In his speech, President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s unwavering support for Palestine's independence, emphasizing that Indonesia must show empathy towards oppressed nations. He also passionately called on the people to confront the nation’s challenges, including corruption and social inequality.

In addition, President Prabowo highlighted the importance of food self-sufficiency, unity, and democracy, as well as his administration’s commitment to eradicating poverty. These priorities were outlined in front of parliament members and foreign dignitaries attending the inauguration.

The presence of International Delegates

The inauguration of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran was attended by an impressive number of international delegates.

A total of 35 countries, including friendly nations and ASEAN partners, sent representatives, including Heads of State, former Presidents, and Special Envoys. Their presence was a source of pride and a sign of respect for Indonesia and its government.
