Not only that, at that time the Philippines also set a record as the first country from the region of Southeast Asia who get the gold medal in the Paris Olympics 2024. This story began with men’s floor gymnastics at Bercy Arena. On Saturday, August 3, 2024, there was a Philippines athlete who scored 15.000 at floor exercise.

Carlos Yulo and His Potential When He’s 7

Carlos Edriel Poquiz Yulo, or known as Carlos Yulo, was born in Manila on February 16, 2000. His potential in the field of gymnastics was visible to him at the age of 7 when he was chosen to represent the capital region in the Philippine National Games.

From an early age, Carlos Yulo already received the support of the Philippine Gymnastics Federation before moving to Japan in 2016 on a scholarship from the Japan Olympic Association, until he received a bachelor's degree in literature from Teikyo University in 2022.

Even though his name might be a newcomer and has only been heard a few times at the Olympics, but at the SEA Games or Asian Games the name Carlos Yulo is one of the floor gymnastic athletes who has become a regular champion. This is because he himself has won gold medals at the 2019 and 2023 SEA Games.

What He Get After Achieve Two Gold Medal

Because of his achievements in 2 Olympic events, President Marcos Jr. even called him a “sports hero”, while Parliament Speaker Romualdez stated that Yulo was a “valuable asset for the country”.

From private home properties, tour packages, there is even a well-known photographer in the Philippines offering free photo packages from pre-wedding to wedding. Other than that, local medias said there are also a few restaurants in the capital and from his hometown that offer him for lifetime free meal.

The Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA), the country's oldest media organization, will recognize outstanding individuals and businesses who have brought honor to the Philippines.

The Filipino Olympians including the country’s Paralympic Games representatives, will become the main spotlight on that event later, with Carlos Yulo as the strong contender for the Athlete of the Year award serving as the centerpiece.

Other awards to presented will be Executive of the Year, National Sports Association (NSA) of the Year, President’s Award, and top performers such as  the next Mr. Basketball and Ms. Volleyball, among others.

The PSA Hall of Fame also will announce a new Filipino sporting icon, continuing the legacy of the late track and field legend, Lydia De Vega.
