No wonder Singapore is often referred to as a haven for professionals in Southeast Asia. In 2024, the country once again proved itself as the ultimate work destination by achieving the highest ranking in the region's work-life balance index, according to the Global Life-Work Balance Index report by global human resources firm Remote.

The index measures work-life balance by taking into account important factors such as minimum wage, mandatory annual leave, sick leave, paid maternity leave, average working hours and healthcare systems.

Of the 60 countries and economies evaluated, six Southeast Asian nations made the list, with Singapore leading the region, followed by Vietnam (37th), Thailand (39th), Indonesia (43rd), Malaysia (47th), and the Philippines (59th).

Ranked 26th globally with a score of 56.84, Singapore demonstrates its commitment to supporting the well-being of workers. In addition to offering 18 days of annual leave, the country provides universal public insurance that ensures protection for all its citizens. In addition, well-managed working hours, set at an average of 42.6 hours per week, contribute to a balanced lifestyle.

On the other hand, the Philippines ranks lowest in Southeast Asia and second lowest in the world. This stark contrast highlights the different approaches to work-life balance within the same region.

Here are the rankings of six Southeast Asian countries in the 2024 Global Life-Work Balance Index:
