Thailand has summoned Iran’s ambassador in Bangkok after a Thai-flagged cargo ship was struck while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route.
The incident, which left several crew members missing and sparked international concern, has heightened tensions between Bangkok and Tehran as authorities seek explanations and demand accountability.
The Attack on Mayuree Naree
The incident involved a Thai bulk carrier named Mayuree Naree, which was sailing through the Strait of Hormuz after departing from the United Arab Emirates.
The vessel, carrying 23 crew members, was struck by projectiles that caused a fire and severe damage to parts of the ship, including the engine room.
Following the strike, most of the crew were forced to abandon the vessel. Twenty sailors were rescued by the Omani navy and taken to safety, while three crew members were initially reported missing as rescue efforts continued.
