According to the Global Diplomacy Index 2024 report, China holds the top spot globally with the highest number of diplomatic posts, totaling 274 embassies, consulates, and permanent missions.
In Southeast Asia, Indonesia leads the region and ranks 23rd globally with 130 diplomatic posts. Following Indonesia, Malaysia ranks 35th with 106 diplomatic posts, and Thailand ranks 39th with 97 posts. The Philippines and Viet Nam share the 40th spot globally, each with 94 diplomatic posts.
Other Southeast Asian nations also feature in the rankings: Singapore is 52nd with 50 diplomatic posts, Myanmar is 54th with 46 posts, Cambodia is 58th with 43 posts, and Brunei Darussalam is 60th with 42 posts. Laos follows closely, ranking 61st with 40 posts, and Timor-Leste rounds out the list for the region.
These rankings highlight Indonesia's prominent role in regional diplomacy and the extensive diplomatic networks maintained by various Southeast Asian countries. This presence underscores the importance of diplomatic engagement and international relations in promoting regional stability, economic growth, and cooperation.
