Brunei Darussalam has achieved the highest percentage of forest area in Southeast Asia, with 72.1% of its total land area covered by forests in 2022.
This accomplishment aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 15, focusing on protecting, restoring, and sustainably using terrestrial ecosystems. Notably, Lao PDR follows with a forest area share of 62.0%, while Malaysia and Indonesia have 55.3% and 50.8% of their total land areas covered by forests, respectively. Other ASEAN Member States range from 20.8% to 48.2% in the proportion of land covered by forests.
