Global Transportation Usage, 2024

A recent study published in Environment International 2024 by The ABC of Mobility reveals intriguing global mobility trends, covering 800 cities across 61 countries. This comprehensive study categorizes transportation into three main types: Car, Public Transport, and Walking/Cycling, and provides insights into how people commute in different regions.

In Southeast Asia, car usage and public transport dominate the commuting landscape, each accounting for 43% of the transportation mode share. Walking and cycling, while less prevalent, still play a significant role, making up 13% of the commuting methods.

These findings highlight the reliance on motorized transportation in Southeast Asia, reflecting the region's urban infrastructure and commuting patterns. The equal share of car usage and public transport indicates a balanced approach to mobility, where both personal and public modes of transportation are crucial for daily commuting.

The study's regional analysis offers valuable insights into the commuting behaviors and preferences of people in Southeast Asia, shedding light on the transportation challenges and opportunities in the region. Understanding these trends is essential for developing sustainable mobility solutions and improving urban transportation systems in Southeast Asia and beyond.
