Top 10 World Car Manufacturers Ranking, 2023

In 2023, the global car market rankings showcased a clear dominance by Toyota, which led the pack with significant margins. Toyota Group, with a robust 4.6% increase in sales, maintained its lead by selling an impressive 10.8 million vehicles. This performance kept Toyota well ahead of its competitors.

Volkswagen Group secured the second spot with a notable 10.9% rise in sales, totaling 8.8 million vehicles. Volkswagen's strong growth in both the American market (+16.6%) and the European market (+20.3%) contributed significantly to this increase.

Hyundai-Kia held the third position, reporting 7.1 million sales and a 3.9% growth. This increase was driven by surges in America (+7.9%) and Asia (+6.3%).

The Renault Nissan Alliance was in fourth place with 6.9 million sales, up by 5.8%. Despite struggles in Asia (-15.3%) and Africa (-8.8%), the alliance saw substantial growth in both Americas (+22.2%) and Europe (+18.0%).

Stellantis, which designs, manufactures, and sells vehicles under 14 different brands including Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, and Vauxhall, remained in fifth place. The group sold 6.5 million vehicles, marking a 3.2% increase, with a significant loss in Asia (-13.3%) being offset by growth in Europe (+12.5%).

Following Stellantis, General Motors reported 6.2 million sales (+3.3%), while Honda Motor achieved 4.1 million sales (+4.2%). Ford sold 3.9 million vehicles, seeing a 4.5% increase. Suzuki was in ninth place with 3.05 million sales, experiencing a slight decrease of 0.2%.

BYD made a notable entry into the top ten, climbing three spots to secure the 10th position. As the leading specialist in electric vehicles (EVs), BYD's sales surged by 46.3%, reaching 2.6 million vehicles.
