In 2023/24, Myanmar was identified as the most unsafe place for women in Southeast Asia, according to the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Index. This index, which evaluates 177 countries globally, assesses justice, inclusion, and security for women to provide a comprehensive understanding of their well-being.
Globally, Afghanistan was ranked as the most unsafe country for women, while Denmark was considered the safest. In Southeast Asia, Myanmar ranked the lowest, positioned at 13th globally with a score of 0.451. Conversely, Singapore was recognized as the safest country for women in the region, achieving a score of 0.887.
These rankings underscore significant disparities in the safety and security of women within Southeast Asia, with Myanmar facing considerable challenges in ensuring women's safety and Singapore serving as a regional benchmark for women's security and well-being.
