In a world of rapid change and uncertainty, emerging trends offer a glimpse into public expectations for the near future. Ipsos surveyed over 23,700 participants from 33 countries, exploring predictions on technology, the environment, and global security. While these findings reflect public opinion across diverse regions, they do not include expert perspectives.
Environmental Concerns
A significant 80% of respondents globally predicted a continued rise in temperatures, with particularly strong agreement in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Additionally, 72% anticipated more extreme weather events in their countries, highlighting growing concerns about climate change. Despite these worries, only 52% expressed confidence that governments would take more decisive actions to reduce carbon emissions, reflecting skepticism about global leadership on environmental issues.
Global Conflicts
The survey revealed widespread pessimism about resolving ongoing conflicts, with few participants expecting peace in the Middle East or Ukraine by 2025. This underscores a prevailing sense of uncertainty and concern over geopolitical stability in the coming years.
Technology and AI
Respondents had mixed views on technological advancements. While many believed artificial intelligence would lead to job displacement, a notable number also saw it as a source of new opportunities. The increasing adoption of virtual worlds and digital platforms was another trend highlighted, suggesting that digital transformation will continue shaping economies and societies.
