Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has officially expressed support for Timor-Leste and Papua New Guinea’s aspirations to join the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Speaking at the 46th ASEAN Summit, Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to ASEAN centrality and regional inclusivity, urging member states to welcome new partners in Southeast Asia.

He emphasized that Timor-Leste, already an observer since 2022, is steadily progressing toward full membership through ongoing integration efforts.

Papua New Guinea, although not geographically classified within ASEAN’s core, has received strong backing from Indonesia for deeper regional engagement and cooperation.

Prabowo stated that broader ASEAN membership will strengthen regional stability, economic development, and diplomatic ties across the Indo-Pacific.
