Malaysia requires age checks to block under-16 social media users

Malaysia has started enforcing a rule that bans children under 16 from having social media accounts.

Social media platforms must now verify users’ ages and prevent those under 16 from creating accounts. Companies that fail to comply could face penalties.

The government said the move is aimed at protecting children from online risks, including harmful content, cyberbullying and exploitation.
