The Fox King, a groundbreaking Malaysia–Indonesia co-production starring renowned actress Dian Sastrowardoyo, has been selected to premiere at the prestigious 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching praised the film's selection as highlighting "the potential of regional collaborations to make an impact in the international market" and expressed hope it will inspire more high-quality Southeast Asian collaborative works.
Directed by acclaimed Malaysian filmmaker Woo Ming Jin, the film received significant backing from the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) through the 2023 Creative Content Fund allocation of RM1 million and the 2025 International Participation and Promotion Fund of RM50,000.
The movie explores universal themes of brotherhood, loss, and the search for love, all portrayed through a distinctive cinematic style that represents Southeast Asian storytelling on the global stage.
This milestone achievement marks a significant moment for regional cinema, demonstrating how cross-border collaborations between neighboring countries can successfully compete and gain recognition at one of the world's largest and most influential film festivals.
