The Malaysian religious horror film "Munafik" is being adapted into an Indonesian version, with production companies Unlimited Production and Skop Production bringing the story to local audiences.
Indonesian actor Arya Saloka has been cast to play the lead role of Ustaz Adam, a character originally portrayed in the phenomenally successful Malaysian original film that resonated strongly with audiences.
Arya Saloka revealed he is undergoing intensive character preparation including studying the Quran from basic iqra lessons to perfect his recitation of verses, while also growing a beard to embody the pious religious teacher character and follow the Sunnah.
The Indonesian adaptation will feature a cast including Nova Eliza, Dimas Aditya, and Donny Damara, with filming scheduled to begin on November 2, 2025.
Arya Saloka acknowledged the challenge of portraying Ustaz Adam, noting the Malaysian version set an extraordinarily high standard with its religious teacher character whose Quranic recitation his own religious instructor praised as exceptional.
