Malaysian university breaks into Asia's top 40 varsities for 1st time

Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) is the first Malaysian university to enter Asia's top 40. Times Higher Education (THE) ranked UTP 35th in its 2026 list, alongside China's Tianjin University.

Malaysia saw a record six universities enter the top 100, out of 929 institutions evaluated on their teaching and research.

THE official Phil Baty praised this, stating Malaysia is emerging as a global higher education player.
