The Philippines has earned a proud spot on the world culinary stage as global food guide TasteAtlas released its 50 Best Chicken Dishes in the World ranking for April 2026. Inasal na manok secured third place with a rating of 4.4 out of 5, sitting alongside South Korea's chikin at No. 1 and Peru's pollo a la brasa at No. 2, both also rated 4.4. The list was drawn from over 20,000 ratings, with nearly 14,000 verified as legitimate through TasteAtlas' audience recognition system.
Originating from Western Visayas, inasal na manok is celebrated as the signature dish of the entire region. Its preparation centers on marinating chicken cuts in a blend of vinegar, lemongrass, garlic, and ginger. During grilling, the meat is brushed with annatto-infused oil, producing the dish's iconic golden-orange color and a distinctly peppery, smoky depth of flavor.
The dish is traditionally paired with annatto-flavored garlic rice and spiced vinegar dipping sauce, components considered essential to the full inasal experience. Top-recommended spots by food critics include Aida's Manokan and Nena's Beth at Manokan Country, both recognized for preserving the dish's authentic regional character.
The Philippines also landed a second entry on the list. Adobong manok ranked 40th with a 4.1 rating, described by TasteAtlas as a traditional stew of chicken, garlic, bay leaves, soy sauce, and white vinegar, typically served with white rice.
In 2022, the city of Bacolod officially declared inasal na manok an important cultural property, affirming its role in local heritage. Beyond the global top 50, the dish also topped TasteAtlas' Best Chicken Dishes in Southeast Asia rankings, reinforcing its status as one of the Philippines' most celebrated culinary contributions worldwide.
