Spring Airlines will commence daily flights between Shanghai and Penang beginning January 30, 2026, making it the third carrier on the Shanghai-Penang route after Juneyao Airlines and Shanghai Airlines.

According to Tourism Malaysia deputy chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin, the service will operate under flight numbers 9C7295/7250 between Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Penang International Airport, with flights arriving in Penang at 2:30 PM local time and departing back to Shanghai at 3:30 PM daily using Airbus A320 aircraft.

The route covers a distance of approximately 3,645 kilometers with a flight time of five hours and 50 minutes, offering travelers greater convenience and accessibility between the two cities.

Yeoh stated that the daily service provides Penang with direct connectivity to one of China's most dynamic cities, reinforcing its position as a key destination for Chinese travelers, with China remaining one of Malaysia's most important source markets.

The expansion of air links reflects Malaysia's commitment to fostering closer ties with China, supporting the growth of both aviation and tourism sectors, with enhanced connectivity expected to drive a significant increase in tourist arrivals from Shanghai and beyond following reciprocal visa-free entry policies between China and Malaysia.
