QS World University Rankings 2018-2019: Top 10 Southeast Asian Universities

The fifteenth edition of the QS World University Rankings, released Thursday (June 7)  by global higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, sees few universities in the region listed among the world's Top 200.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is the world’s best university for a record-breaking seventh consecutive year.

QS rank the world’s 1000 best universities, which come from 85 different countries.

Based on the latest rankings, The National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have clinched top 11th and 12th position respectively. NUS had previously ranked 15th in the 2018 ranking and NTU, at 10th.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's University of Malaya achieves its highest rank, 87th in the world from 114th last year. This university is reported as breaks into Top 100 for this latest index.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (184th) joins the world’s Top 200, an achievement only narrowly missed by Universiti Putra Malaysia (202th).

Universities are evaluated according to the following six metrics:

  1. Academic Reputation (40%)
  2. Employer Reputation (10%)
  3. Faculty/Student Ratio (20%)
  4. Citations per faculty (20%)
  5. International Faculty Ratio (5%)
  6. International Student Ratio (5%)
