Skyscraper Capital: Malaysia Reigns as The Most Skyscrapers in Southeast Asia, KL Top the List

Malaysia has achieved remarkable success in owning the tallest skyscrapers in Southeast Asia in 2024, ranking second in Asia and fourth globally. The latest data from skyscrapercenter.com in February 2024 reflects this significant rise, considering that Malaysia previously held the sixth position globally in 2023.

Out of a total of 366 buildings, Malaysia stands out with 293 structures over 150 meters tall, 67 over 200 meters tall, and 6 over 300 meters tall. By category (150m+, 200m+, and 300m+), Malaysia dominates among all countries in each of these categories.

After Malaysia, Indonesia ranks ninth in the world with 188 buildings, while Thailand ranks third in Southeast Asia and tenth in the world with a total of 163 buildings.

When looking at cities, Kuala Lumpur (KL) stands out as the city with the highest number of skyscrapers in Southeast Asia, with a total of 241 buildings that are taller than 150 meters. Jakarta follows with 165 buildings, followed by Bangkok with 142 buildings over 150 meters. Kuala Lumpur also leads in all three categories (150m+, 200m+, and 300m+) in terms of the total number of skyscrapers.

Of the 35 cities listed, Malaysia has a strong presence with 10 cities making the list. These include Penang and Johor Bahru, ranked sixth and seventh respectively, while Petaling Jaya secures 14th place with a significant number of skyscrapers.

Other cities listed include Bentong in Pahang and Melaka, ranked 20th and 21st respectively. Cyberjaya, Shah Alam and Subang Jaya follow at 23rd, 24th and 25th respectively. The list also includes Putrajaya and Kota Kinabalu, ranked 28th and 30th.
