The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that the construction of the terminal building for the New Manila International Airport (NMIA) in Bulakan, Bulacan is scheduled to begin in 2026, with 80% of land development, including shoreline piling along Manila Bay, already completed.

Engineer Abelardo Sore Jr., DOTr’s NMIA project manager, shared that the terminal—designed by San Miguel Aero City Inc. (SMAI)—will cover 2,500 hectares, feature five wings and 240 boarding gates, and is expected to handle 35 to 100 million passengers annually.

The airport will be supported by four parallel runways, with construction on the first two underway soon, while SMAI Engineer Norberto Conti confirmed that an additional 33 million cubic meters of sand is needed to complete the reclamation.

Developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the ₱735-billion project is led by San Miguel Corporation, which secured the 50-year franchise through Republic Act 11506 and has registered ₱536 billion of the investment with the Board of Investments (BOI).

Set to be fully operational by 2028, the NMIA will be linked to 21 planned access roads and expressways, including the 8-kilometer NLEX spur road from Marilao to Balagtas and the ongoing construction of the Northern Access Link Expressway (NALEX).
