Viet Nam's Long Thành International Airport, currently under construction near Hồ Chí Minh City, represents the country's most expensive infrastructure project with a total investment of US$16 billion and is designed to transform Viet Nam into a major aviation hub in Southeast Asia.
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) confirms that once fully completed in three phases, the massive 5,000-hectare facility will serve over 100 million passengers and handle five million tonnes of cargo annually, making it one of the largest airports in the world.
Vietnamese lawmakers recently approved a revised completion timeline, extending the deadline to the end of 2026 with the addition of a second runway to the first phase, while the airport is expected to welcome its first aircraft in July 2025.
Located approximately 40 kilometers east of Hồ Chí Minh City center, the airport will eventually feature four runways and four mirror-image terminals, designed to replace Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport as Vietnam's primary gateway.
This mega-project will serve Viet Nam's population of over 100 million people and position the country as a critical aviation connector in the Asia–Pacific region, handling passenger traffic that rivals major international hubs like İstanbul Airport.
