Bali has officially launched its own .bali domain name following a memorandum of understanding signed on November 27, 2025 between Governor Wayan Koster and PANDI Chairman John Simanjuntak, marking a major step in defining the island’s cultural identity within the global digital landscape.

Simanjuntak emphasized that the new domain is more than technical infrastructure, describing it as an authentic digital identity that helps individuals and businesses embody Balinese cultural values while strengthening global recognition.

The .bali domain is expected to boost economic opportunities for local MSMEs and brands by improving their online presence and search visibility, with PANDI and Udayana University also preparing technical groundwork to eventually enable domain names written entirely in traditional Balinese script.

A five-year agreement grants Bali official authority to register its geographic top-level domain through ICANN, while establishing clear governance policies, DNS technical support, verification services, and public education programs to ensure widespread adoption and cultural preservation.

This milestone aligns with Indonesia’s broader digital tourism strategy—including the rollout of the MaiA AI platform—as Bali works to enhance its competitiveness as a world-leading destination where technology enriches cultural storytelling and visitor experiences.
