Malaysia’s action-packed biopic Gayong, which tells the story of silat Gayong founder Datuk Meor Abdul Rahman, is set to make its international debut across 33 Latin American countries.

Producer Eric Ong revealed that the opportunity came after Movie Move’s international marketing team secured interest from buyers at the Cannes Film Festival, where the film’s high production quality and focus on Asian martial arts captured attention.

The film, directed by Faisal Ishak and produced by SOL Pictures, will be distributed globally through OTT streaming platforms, though the final release date and contract are still being finalized.

While it won’t be released in cinemas internationally, Ong expressed pride in Gayong’s ability to introduce silat to global audiences and prove the international appeal of Malaysia’s martial arts heritage.

The film premiered in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam on May 8, and is set to launch in Singapore on May 22, marking a regional milestone ahead of its global streaming release.
