At a press conference on Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump said the war against Iran could end “very soon” and predicted that global oil prices would eventually fall, despite markets reacting nervously after crude surged past $100 per barrel over the weekend and triggered volatility across international financial markets.
Trump’s remarks came nine days after the United States launched military operations against Iran on February 28 alongside Israel, with the president claiming the campaign had made “major strides” toward achieving its military objectives, though he did not provide a clear explanation of the final strategic goal.
Speaking at Trump National Doral near Miami, Trump highlighted what he described as significant battlefield successes, including the reported destruction of more than 50 Iranian naval vessels and severe damage to Iran’s air force and anti-aircraft defense systems.
The U.S. president further claimed that Iranian command structures had been dismantled, saying Iran now has “no leadership” because key assets and positions had been destroyed, although he did not provide evidence or confirmation from independent military or intelligence authorities.
When asked whether the conflict could end this week, Trump responded “no” but reiterated that it could conclude soon, while also warning that the United States still has the capability to strike additional sensitive targets in Iran, including major electricity infrastructure, if Washington considers it necessary.
