European aircraft manufacturer Airbus is close to securing an additional order from Malaysia Aviation Group for more A330neo long-haul jets, with industry sources indicating the deal could be announced during Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's visit to Paris later this week.
Malaysia Aviation Group, the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, has already taken delivery of its first A330neo aircraft, which is part of a 20-aircraft lease agreement with Avolon, setting new standards for fuel efficiency and passenger experience.
According to deputy transport minister reports, Malaysia Airlines is expecting delivery of 19 more Airbus A330neo aircraft from February 2025 until 2026, as part of the airline's ongoing fleet modernization program.
MAG Managing Director Izham Ismail has been involved in discussions regarding the potential expansion of the A330neo fleet, though none of the companies have immediately responded to requests for comment about the latest order negotiations.
The airline has also extended its trust in Airbus' Flight Hour Services program to cover the new A330neo fleet, with the long-term power-by-the-hour contract covering integrated component services, on-site stock, pool access and repair services to support daily maintenance activities.
