Malaysia Airlines successfully resumed direct flights between Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Brisbane Airport on November 29, 2025, with the inaugural flight MH135 marking the carrier's return to Queensland after nearly three years following the route's suspension in March 2023 as part of cost-cutting measures.
The resumption received overwhelming market response with the services achieving exceptional load factors of 86% on the outbound flight to Brisbane and an impressive 99% capacity on the return flight to Kuala Lumpur, reflecting robust demand for the reinstated route that now operates five times weekly on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Malaysia Aviation Group Chief Commercial Officer Dersenish Aresandiran emphasized that this strategic expansion strengthens the airline's Australian footprint while supporting tourism and trade flows between Malaysia and Queensland, with the route now served by Airbus A330-300 aircraft featuring 27 business class and 263 economy seats, and the airline's Manchester United aircraft livery adding special appeal to the service.
The resumption coincides with Malaysia Airlines introducing its all-new A330neo fleet on selected Australia routes offering enhanced passenger comfort, improved fuel efficiency, and state-of-the-art cabin features, with the carrier planning to operate the youngest widebody fleet into Australasia by the first quarter of 2026 while expanding frequencies to Sydney up to 21 weekly flights and Melbourne to 18 weekly services.
With Brisbane now reinstated, Malaysia Airlines operates direct flights to five Australian cities—Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide—providing Queenslanders enhanced connectivity across Southeast Asia and Europe while unlocking strengthened opportunities for Queensland exporters to access Asian markets including Malaysia, India, and beyond through the Kuala Lumpur hub.
